Kahika Fair – Death and Rebirth Traditional Culture of Himachal Pradesh

This year death and rebirth traditional Kahika fair will be celebrated on 11-Aug-2021 to 13-Aug-2021 at Jai dev Sutradhari Brahma village Surahan. On Sunday from the Hurang village, the deity of the valley (Jai Dev Hurnag Narayan), along with hundreds of Haryans, has left for Surahan village of the valley to participate in this festival along with the deity Lav Lashkar. The Kahika fair festival will begin here on Wednesday evening (11-Aug-2021) with the Dev Vidhi from Narayan Kund.

Himachal Pradesh is one of the traditional culture and historical states in India. It follows the traditions that have been going on for centuries. There are many local festivals celebrated in every year, Kahika fair death and rebirth traditional culture of Himachal Pradesh is one of them and powers are also performed here by the deities. It’s known as Kahika festival, and it believes that the local deity (Jai Dev Hurang Narayan) bestows a dead man with life. This historical festival celebrated in Kullu valley and Mandi district (Chuhar Valley).

The traditional fairs connected with local deities and the fair are celebrated for three days after three or five years. All the people of Mandi, Kullu and other districts of Himachal Pradesh are proud of their traditional colourful culture. Thousands of devotees visit to celebrating the traditional historical culture Kahika Fair in Surahan and Jai Dev Hurang Narayan village, near Padhar town in Mandi.

The major importance of the fair is death and rebirth of a member of Nar (a tribe) and getting his life back from the gods known as Jai Dev Hurang Narayan. During this festival near (a tribe) will be drinking a handmade poison made by having family members and after that Nar (a tribe) will be declared dead. Some people think this is a lie. It’s verified by doctors.

In the Kahika fair festival, if the person is not able to be alive by the divine powers, then at the same time the chariot of the deity is burnt with his own wood and all the gold and silver ornaments that are engaged in the devarath are given to the wife of that Nar.

During this festival everyday people visit this place and attending the festival of Kahika Fair.
